Writer / EditorKatherine Fernelius holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Print Media Journalism from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Ms. Fernelius attended UNLV on a music scholarship for her abilities as a cellist and played in the UNLV Symphony Orchestra; in addition, she also earned the Millennium Scholarship for her academic accomplishments. While attending UNLV, Ms. Fernelius worked on the university newspaper, The Rebel Yell as Copy Editor, Events Calendar and Blotter Editor, and regular contributing writer. Ms. Fernelius’ hard work on The Rebel Yell gave her valuable experience and solidified her passion for journalism. Due to her scholastic achievements, Ms. Fernelius was invited to join Phi Kappa Phi, one of most selective of all honor societies and many other highly competitive national honors organizations.

Upon graduating from UNLV, Ms. Fernelius began working at the Nevada Business Journal as the Executive Assistant to the Publisher. While there, she gained a thorough knowledge of different departments in the publishing industry.  In addition to writing for the only statewide business magazine, Nevada Business Journal, Ms. Fernelius was busy as a freelance writer for multiple Las Vegas-based publications including, The View, Jazz Notes, QVegas, and Windermere Homes and Living.

From March 2008-September 2009, Ms. Fernelius was the associate editor for Imaging Spectrum magazine, a national publication in the imaging industry, and Recycler Trade Magazine, an international publication in the imaging industry. With this position, Ms. Fernelius excelled in putting a 64-page magazine together from start to finish. She scheduled monthly editorial themes, commissioned writers, wrote content, copy edited and collaborated with the graphic designer to publish the magazine. Due to her exposure in both magazines, Ms. Fernelius has been published on a national and international basis.

When the economy and job market took a turn for the worse so too did the companies Ms. Fernelius was working with, and she was laid off. However, another magazine in the industry recognized her talents and almost immediately hired her. Ms. Fernelius is now associate editor of Recharger Magazine, the largest business-to-business publication in the aftermarket imaging industry. Ms. Fernelius’ responsibilities include writing multiple articles for the monthly publication, aiding in magazine layout using Adobe Software, editing articles and press releases for print and Web, and traveling around the world to industry tradeshows to bring back and report on trends and news in the industry.

Ms. Fernelius is still an active freelance writer and contributes a wide range of articles to local, national and international publications.
